Press Releases: Philadelphia Gas Commission Elects City Controller Christy Brady to Serve as New Chair

PHILADELPHIA – Commissioners of the Philadelphia Gas Commission today voted City Controller Christy Brady to serve as the new chair of the city agency that oversees the management and operation of Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW). 

Brady issued the following statement on being elected to the chair position: 

“It is an honor to be elected as chairwoman by my esteemed colleagues on the Philadelphia Gas Commission. We have a great responsibility to oversee the management and operations of the Philadelphia Gas Works on behalf of the 525,000 residential and commercial customers served every day by the utility provider.  

“Working together we will ensure Philadelphians and our business community receive the highest quality of services they rely on and deserve.” 

The Philadelphia Gas Commission’s responsibilities include approving PGW’s annual operating budget and five-year financial forecast, making recommendations to City Council, reviewing various financial and business transactions, and overseeing gas purchase contracts and real estate transactions.  

The Philadelphia Gas Commission is a departmental commission of the City of Philadelphia under the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter. There are five Commissioners: two appointees of the Mayor; two appointees of the City Council; and the City Controller.
