City Controller

City Controller Christy Brady took office in November 2023 after winning the November 2023 General Election. Prior to her election, Christy served as Acting-City Controller after being appointed to the role by Mayor James F. Kenney on November 7, 2022.

Under Christy’s leadership, the City Controller’s office has investigated delays in the city’s process for demolishing dangerous properties, held the city accountable for missteps in how gun violence prevention funding was spent, analyzed the distribution of millions in state-received Opioid Settlement Funds, reviewed recent declines in public safety staffing levels, identified millions of dollars the city is losing through property tax fraud, and monitored current spending and progress for the city’s Rebuild program.

With nearly 30 years of experience across a variety of roles in the Philadelphia Office of the City Controller, Christy worked her way up the ranks of the Controller’s Office. Since January 2017, Christy has led a professional staff of auditors who perform financial, performance, and compliance audits for the City of Philadelphia and financial audits for the School District of Philadelphia as the first woman ever appointed Deputy Controller for Audit. As Deputy for audit, Christy oversaw a professional staff of auditors who conduct financial, performance, and compliance audits for a variety of municipal departments and agencies, as well as render opinions on the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards of the City and School District of Philadelphia.

Christy is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Global Management Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Local Government Auditors.

Judge James Crumlish III swore Controller Brady into office.

As the City Controller, Christy manages all day-to-day operations of the office and works to meet and exceed its core functions. She serves on the Board of Pensions, Gas Commission and Sinking Fund Commission.

Christy lives in the Fox Chase neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia with her husband and three children. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science, now known as Jefferson University, where she played soccer and softball.
